Flash statement came from Azerbaijan: ‘We are ready to deliver the bodies’, Guns did not stop
Explosions were heard again on the Azerbaijan-Armenia border, and Yerevan claimed that a SİHA had crossed the border line. AFP wrote that Pashinyan sought help from world leaders after the ‘unique’ recent clashes. In the critical statement made by Azerbaijan, he said, “We write to give the bodies of 100 Armenian soldiers.”
In Nagorno-Karabakh, which turned into a fireball once again 22 months after the ceasefire agreement, explosions and gunfire did not cease all night long. Armenian forces fired artillery around Lachin on the night of Wednesday to Thursday. Stating that there were still intermittent fires at sunrise in the morning, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Defense states that the troops were deployed in the direction of Kelbajar.
Noting that the tension on the border did not decrease with the opened fire, the Baku administration emphasizes that the Armenian soldiers and militias once again violated the ceasefire agreement.
Armenia, on the other hand, claimed that the Azerbaijani army tried to advance towards Yermuk and Upper Shorja with heavy weapons as of 08:00 in the morning. Defense Ministry spokesman Aram Torosyan claimed that the Azerbaijani army crossed the border line with an armed unmanned aerial vehicle (SİHA). Among the allegations of the Yerevan administration is that the Azerbaijani drone flew towards the city of Yermuk, outside the Nagorno-Karabakh region.
Azerbaijan announced that 50 soldiers were martyred in the clashes that spread over a long line on Wednesday. 42 of the martyrs were army members and eight were border guards. Two civilians were also injured in the Armenian attacks.
The Armenian side, on the other hand, announced the loss of 49 soldiers hours before the statement from Baku. International news agency Agence France-Presse (AFP) presented photos of relatives of wounded soldiers waiting in front of an army hospital in Yerevan.
Recent conflicts have spread to Dashkesen, Kelbajar and Lachin in Nagorno-Karabakh, as well as to the Basargecher region further north on the Azerbaijan-Armenia border. AFP news agency announced that the most violent clashes between the “main enemies” since the 2020 war, when most of the occupied Nagorno-Karabakh was recaptured from Armenia.
Azerbaijani leader Ilham Aliyev, who held a meeting with the army commanders, noted that the conflicts spreading along the border line were a great provocation of Armenia. The Azerbaijani army controls all strategic points on the border that may pose a threat or danger.
AFP: ARMENIA ASKED FOR HELP
The transformation of the South Caucasus into a new flash point, as expected, made a worldwide impact. AFP commented that Armenia immediately sought help from world leaders.
Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan hastily called Russian leader Vladimir Putin on Tuesday evening when the clashes started. Other names Pashinyan contacted were French leader Emmanuel Macron, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Iranian President Ibrahim Reisi and European Union (EU) Council President Charles Michel.
Calling for an end to the conflicts, France called the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to an emergency meeting. On Wednesday, French leader Macron called Azerbaijani President Aliyev by phone.
