6 things you should never clean with glass cleaner, Avoid using glass cleaner for these tasks
Everyone has glass cleaner at home – the mostly blue liquid that comes in handy for a quick cleaning of windows, mirrors and glass shower stalls. However, there are also cleaning tasks where it is better to avoid this spray mist.
Use a milder alternative for the following things.
1. Screens
Want to wipe greasy fingerprints off a laptop, TV, or cell phone screen? Then it’s better not to use glass cleaner! Yes, it degreases and cleans, but the ingredients are often far too abrasive for electronics. Instead, use a microfiber cloth with some clean water or a specialty electronics cleaner.
2. Skin
Recently there was a tip on the internet to reverse unsightly self-tanning results with a glass cleaner. Supermodel Ashley Graham recommended “scrubbing” skin with the blue liquid. Um, don’t do that! Glass cleaner is extremely harsh on the skin and dries it out.
3. Bleach
Never mix detergent with bleach. Mixing bleach with an ammonia-based cleaning product, like the one found in glass cleaner, releases a dangerous substance called chloramine, which can be harmful.
4. Granite countertop
Do you want to wipe your worktop quickly? Then don’t use any glass cleaner! This is far too corrosive for porous stones like granite and marble and can cause permanent damage. Glass cleaner stains and can eat through the protective layer, leaving your countertop looking dull and dirty.
